For some years past, our town has been behind many other places in not supporting a good Cornet band. Every time when there is held a public dem-onstration of any kind—and Iioanoke always holds a good many such affairs*—the citizens baye complainedthat the onlv thing lacking was a brass band. On account of not wishing to go on any uncertainties, we have heretofore refrained from giving publication to the fact that a splendid band has been secretly organizing the past few weeks, and an order is now in Chicago for a complete new set of band instruments, catalogued at two bundred and sixty-flve dollars, which instruments the members of the band are purchasingat their own expense, not asking the citizens to donate a cent. This will certainly add an enlivening feature to the town suoh as any live place needs. At another time we shall publish the name of each member sad the part he supports.
