Bussewitz, Friday evening.Mrs. E. M. Bussewitz was a guest with a group of friends Thursday at the home of Mrs. A. E. Loew of North Lake.The Albert Meissner, Rueben Meissner and Irvin Dibble families attended a picnic at the Charles Vradenbreght home in Wales, Sunday.The swimming instructor, Bob Hugh, says there are 42 taking swimming lessons. Florence PardeeEAGLE, (Special)—Offering mineral waters reputed to be as good as any famous watering place in the United States is the Paradise Springs resort near Eagle, Wis. Its opening was recently announced by Gordon Mertens, who developed the resort.Mertens has: built a new hotel, complete with a nauticelly designed oak paneled dining room, attractive clover leaf cocktail lounge and basement rathskeller.Guest rooms are spacious and individually designed, each having a private tile bath with its own mineral water piped from the Magnesia spring. Drinking water comes from another spring, which flows at a rate of 125,000 gallons of pure crystal clear water an hour. Paradise Springs is offering ‘an American plan operation.Many AdvantagesIt is secluded by its virgin forests and surrounded by its spring Jakes, There are more than 100 acres of private grounds, offering a bathing beach, shuffle boards, tennis courts, bridle paths for hiking or for horse back riding through its private woods. Golfing is available nearby.More than sixty years ago, Paradise Springs was only a tract of land owned by August Luis, an Eagle merchant. In the midst of this community playground^ was a spring and waterfall. It was known as Minnehaha Springs for miles around.A cup was chained near the spring where all could obtain water. Many school and family picnics were held along with 4th of«July and Memorial day celebrations.It was then sold to Colonel Lind-wurm of Chicago, who closed it to the public and raised gin seng, a medicinal herb and developed thepheasants. M.Nichols, of Chicago. *Other Owner#They built a large home and had the spring water piped into their house, using the power from the waterfall. It was used as their summer resort and as his wife belonged to the Eagle Women’s club, many of their meetings were held there.After the death of Nichols, it was sold to L. F. Petet, a Milwaukee industrialist, who made several improvements. Hia grandson, Douglas Bournique of Milwaukee, stayed during the summer and tennis courts were built. Mrs. Baldwin, Petet’s daughter, held many social* functions there for Milwaukee friends.When Petet died, it was sold lo Mrs. Mary Fulton, Chicago, who came regularly for several summers.
