Billy Old Bear ha3 taken on some habits bequeathed to him by the white race and gov- I ernment agents who give attention 1 , to the morals of the Indians on the I reservation make it very uncomfort- j able to those who contribute to Indian delinquency. 1• # * « |By a recent act of congress Indians born within the territorial boundaries of the united States - are c?tj*lt;?ns I thereof and arc entitled to vote. J Citizenship is made provisional upon the fact that it shall not ■ interfere with the right of any Indian or trib- j a! or other property, a clause which was inserted for the protection of ] the Indians. The United States supreme court has declared that citizenship is not inconsistent with wardship, and this act does not of itself terminate the wardship of the Indians. Dr. Jacob Breid, superintend- J ent of the'Tama reservation, ostim- j ate* that 200 of the local Indians will be affected by this law. Three J hundred fifty-six Indians are now I residents of the reservation, and 100 Jof these arc within school age.. Dr. j Breid states that about 56 not within school age are still below the legal age required to vote, leaving about 200,men and wo^nen to receive the I Tight of suffrage. I
