By JACK KEGG Music ColumnistIt’s good (I guess) to be back after a few weeks vacation, so we’ll take a look at the Hooters, plus some new singles. Remember, in most cases, you read about ’em here before they hit the stores. However, being on vacation, I was a little bit behind, so the new Hooters album may be in some stores. In 1983 or thereabouts, I was sitting in the Famous North End Tavern and talked to a entleman named Bob Adams ere are two locally with that name. This one fries hamburgers. The other one’s occupation isn’t so lively) and Mr. Adams informed me of “a bar band I listen to in Philadelphia who are excellent.” Bob proceeded in telling me about The Hooters, and that “a guy from CBS Records came and wants to sign the group.” He added that they write all their stuff and formerly backed Cyndi Lauper.I kept all of this in mind, and gave the Hooters a brief men-TERRY’S BROASTEDCHICKENWILL BEMONDAY, JULY 27tion at the time. The first album, “Nervous Night,” sold over a million copies and spawned a couple of hit singles. And now, CBS is anticipatin big things from their secon album, “One Way Home (Columbia 40659).Rob Hyman leads this talented Ardmore, Pa. (near Philly) quintet. He plays ac-cordian and writes most of the original material. Hyman has injected an Irish (or folk) feel to several of the cuts, notably “Karla With A K”, and the Hooters have combined this with their straight ahead rock sound, and a couple of the songs have a reggae feel. However, it’s the rock approach of the Hooters that made their debut album a platinum success, and it’s the rock sound of the single “Johnny B” that is currently climbing the Hot 100, and “Satellite” and “Hard Rockin’’ Summer” are likely followups. The percentage of groups that make it from the bar scene to the chart scene is small, but the Hooters have made that distinguished minority.ELTON JOHN — Live With the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra — MCA 8022 — Elton makes a majestic return to hisold label with a two-record live set with many of his classic numbers, but Elton recorded this in December, 1986, before his throat surgery, and his voice seems weak.According to sources, Elton watold by doctors to cancel the concert from which the album*OFFER EXPIRES 7/1/87OFFER EXPIRES 7/1/87MONDAY thru SATURDAY SPECIALSirloin TipsCut from the best of western beef and served with fresh cooked green bell peppers and onions, or mushroom sauce. The intensity and emotion is still there, however.JEFF PARIS — Wired Up — Mercury 422-832-188 — If the name is not familiar, Jeff is a guitarist from the West Coast, who played on the Cinderella debut album. He has gotten together his own outfit, and this set of metal-oriented, yet melodic rock and roll should establish Paris on his own. The song “Saturday Nite”, with its infectuous beat and rhythm, would be an excellent first single. If not, Mercury could gowith “I Can’t Let Go.”NEW SINGLES STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN Dick Dale — Pipeline — Columbia 7340 — The surf 1963 instrumental hit for the Chan-tays is revived by these two respected guitarist. Dale, with the Deltones, cut some fine instrumentals of his own in the early 1960s, namely “Surf Beat” and “Let’s Go Trippin.” The new version, from the movie “Back to The Beach,” features a more driving sound than the original, and has the “boss guitar” sound, popularized by Duane Eddy. Stevie Ray Vaughan is a discovery of the legendary John Hammond, who brought Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, and Bruce Springsteen to Columbia. Hammond died recently at the age of 76.David Hallyday — He’s My Girl — Scotti Brothers 7299 — Bluesy, rocking humorous story of a guy who discovers that hisdate is not the girl he thoughtshe should be.....EUROPE — Carrie - Epic 7282 — Excellent ballad, featuring strong vocal lead, wbo is reminiscent of Dennis DeYoung of Styx. Vocalist gives it his all in this effort from a multi-talented group. The Fellas Featuring Joe Raines — All The Way To Heaven — CBS Associated 7150 — A new name to watch. Joe Raines sings in a style similar to James Ingram, and this lavishly orchestrated love song, if given the right exposure, could be another “Just Once.”ACE FREHLEY — Into The Night — Atlantic 89255 — New single by Ace and band (John Regan Tod Horwarth, Anton Fig), is more pop-oriented, ifyou are expecting the usual blistering guitar work associated with Frehley. The vocals also make the record unlike a “New York Groove.” Frehley will open for Cinderella at the Cambria County War Memorial, Johnstown, tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. You may want to call the box office at 814-536-5156 forticket availablility.LISA LISA And Cult Jam -Lost In Emotion — Columbia 7267 — Lisa’s voice is reminiscent of a young Diana Ross, when she fronted the Supremes in the early years, with hits like “Where Did Our Love Go” and “Baby Love.” This song is in the same mold as those songs (minus, of course, the Berry Gordy production), but should do well on the pop and soul charts.NOTE: I try to inform you of upcoming albums, and slipped up on the July schedule. August should features some good ones, and if I get a schedule, I’ll put it here next Sunday. I will tell you, however, that the new Dio album, “Dream Evil” is due this week. Dio, as you know, sang with Black Sabbath and also sang on the Kerry Livgren (of Kansas) solo album “Seeds Of Change,” and did the lead vocals on “To Live For The King,” one of that album’s best numbers. He has been doing the solo scene since signing with Warner Brothers in 1983. (He also cut a single under the name “Ronnie James.” For those of you who don’t know Spanish Dio is translated to “God” in that language).MICHAEL JACKSON will debut his new album, “Bad” on Aug. 31. The debut single will be “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” a ballad duet with Siedah Garrett, to be released nextWB€k.VINYL NOTES: It is also interesting to note that in spite
