GUSTAV BROCKMANN INJURED ON CHEST AND HEAD.Mrs. Fred Kuehl, Wife of the Turner Hall Manager, Faints When She is Thrown from the Buggy and John Kuehl Sustains Severe Sprain of One of His Arms—-Mrs. Brock-mann and Her Baby Uninjured. An exciting and disastrous accidentoccurred yesterday afternoon at Schuet-zen park, and as a result of it Mrs. FredKuehl, wife of the manager of theTurner hall is sick in bed, GustavBrockmann is laid up at his home withinjuries to his chest and a cut on hishead and John Kuehl, a brother of Manager Kuehl, is carrying one of his arms in a sling. These three persons, with Mrs. Brockmann and her four months' old* child were starting to town from Schuetzen park at 1:30 in the afternoon, riding in a two seated buggy drawn by one spirited little horse. They were on the steep road leading out of the park, when the horse became { frightened and unmanageable and began to kick and to run at a high rate of speed. Where the road reaches the main highway there is a sharp turn and the thought of this and the accident that would surely happen if that dangerous spot were reached, caused Mr. Brochmann. who was driving, to turn the horse toward the ditch at the side of the road. This ditch is deep, but between it and the carriageway is :a fence against which Mr. Brockmann hoped to drive the animal and force it to sop running. The plan did not work, for the reason rhat the animal jumped oyer the fence and drew the buggy toward the ditch, overrun ring it and dashing it to pieces. All the occupants of the vehicle were thrown out more or less violently. Mr. Brockmann, whohad already been kicked in the chestso that he had difficulty in breathing.sustained an additional injury in the form of a cut on the head. John Kuehl found he had a severely sprained armwhen he managed to get upon his feet. Mrs. Frocl Kuehl, who had not been well, was somewhat bruised and fainted as soon as she was thrown out. Mrs. Brockmann escaped with very slight injuries beyond the shock of her fall. The first thought of the other members of the party was to get Mrs, Fred Kuehl back to the . club house at the park in order that she might be cared for properly and given medical attention. Doctors were called and their examination of the patient revealed the | fact that her condition was not as serious as had been feared. MeantimeMrs. Brockmann, who had been occupied with looking after Mrs. Kuehl, happened to think of her baby and remembered that, in the excitement of the occasion no attention had been paid to it. She rushed back to the scene of the accident and with those in company with her was in the greatest alarm for fear the child had been hurt. Fortunately the baby was found contentedly playing in the grass by the side of the I road, not having been injured in the i least.I Meantime the horse, whose fractiousness caused all the trouble, had got i loose from the remnants of its harness and was riming into town. It did not slacken its pace until it reached theTurner hall, where it stopped runningand was caught Manager Kuehl, seeing the horse and the condition in which it was. concluded some accident had taken place and telephoned to the park, where he arrived soon afterward.
