105 StudentsSitka-For Fine Arts CampSome 105 full and part-timestudents are enrolled in classes at the Regional Fine Arts Camp which is taking place this week and next on the campus of Sheldon Jackson College, Sitka.The camp, which is the Bicentennial project of the Southeast Alaska Regional Arts Counci, is beginning its third year. It is funded by grants from the Alaska State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts as well asthe Bicentennial Commission.Additional support comes from the Ketchikan and Petersburg School Districts, the City and Borough of Sitka, the Skagway, Haines, and Juneau Arts Councils, and the Petersburg Emblem Club. Publicity for the camp is supported by RCA Alaska Inc. and the Council’s Community Residence program,which funds seven of die camp staff members, is assisted by a contribution from Alaska Loggers.Camp Director Jim Hope noted that this year for the first time there are many more students from outside Sitka than from the host community.This year’s largest full-time enrollment comes from Ketchikan where there are 35 students entered in the artsclasses; Sitka has 26 full-time students and 12 part-time; there are 11 students from Juneau; 9 from Wrangell; 3 from Petersburg; 2 from Haines, 1 from Kake; and 6 from other parts ofthe state.The students are being instructed by 4 teachers in the visual arts, 2 in drama, 3 in dance, 1 in literature and 5 in music.Workshop in Gymnastics Set In Juneau'Crash KillsFor the first time in Southeast Alaska, a gymnastic s workshop will be held in Juneau from August 8-14.Boys and girls ages 10-18 plus interested adults, instructors and coaches are eligible. The workshop will include 6 hours of instruction daily plus lectures and films.The camp, one week in length, will cost $60. All sessions will be held at the Juneau-Douglas High School.
