Family Reunion ofthe Hardey Clan HereA family reunion was held Sunday at the home of Mrs. M. I. McDaniel, 635 South Elmwood.G. W. Hardey, Civil war veteran, and his five children were present. His five children are E. F. Hardey of Kansas City, Mrs.C. W. Discus of St. Louis (whereMr. Haruey attended WymanUniversity before the Civil war), Mrs. P. E. King of Austin, V. S. Hardey of Oak Park, and thehostess. Mrs. McDaniel.G. W. Hardev’s father was a slave owner. Some of his early recollections were of trading withIndians, the first locomotive toleave St. Louis, the Pony Express,the dip candle, the first stove, etc.Later in life Mr. Hardey wentwith his family to Kansas, where land sold for SI.25 an acre. Two and one half years later theyreturned in a covered wagon. Asthere were no tourist camps, thefamily was welcomed by strangers along the wide open prairie.
