WC.IKNT WILL MARK IOWA INDIAN POW-WOWDes Moines, la-* July 22,—The st^tehistorical department has arranged, with tho Musquakie Indians to add to the usual program of dances, and festivities at their pow woAugust5, 6, 7 and S, a half hour of old time, a’boroginal dances and plays in which their oldest men and women will participate. •'Edgar R, Harlan, sfcato curator,I will address the Indians on matters in which they are particularly interested, dealing with the early history of thoir race In Iowa and of the activities of Chieks Wappello, Keokuk, Poweshiek and others. He will deal with the events following*tho Black -hawk war in 1S32, on the removal of tho, tribe to Kansas in 1S46 and theii/ return to Tama county before _ the Civil war.Governor Harding will address the Indians on one of the days of the pow wow. There will be a presentation of the moving pictures whichCurator Harlan has been three years in perfecting as a part of the-official record of the Musquakines, their habitations and daily life. Visiting Indians will attend the pow wow from Wisconsin, Nebraska and Oklahoma., all in full aboriginal costumes, Sec-rotary Harlan announces.The Indians will also be asked to identify some of the native plants and herbs used in aboriginal times as medicines, as foods and also for making fabrics. The original names of Iowa lakes, rivers, streams and land marks will also be officially given out.
