DEATHS AND FUNERALS.Old and Highly Esteemed Citizen Has Gone to His EternalReward.Benjamin F. Slater, a resident of this county since infancy, died lust evening, at the home of his son, Charles C. Slater, of Mechanicsburg, where heLjspent the last few weeks of his life,iatwcchiCnlt;biofhiliFth;a' o\hhflt;slt;nhaving gone there for a visit. Mr. Slater had been in ill health for several months, his ailment being stomach trouble, which finally produced an affection of the heart. Mr. Slater, aged seventy years, was a native of Stark county and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. .John Slater, who removed to this county m 1838. The first sixteen years of his life were spent on a farm,111 .Liberty township. In his youth he was studious and by his industry came to be known for his high intellectual attainments. For thirty years he was a teacher in the public schools of Van Wert, Mercer and Licking counties, finally, when advanced in age, aban-ji« cloning that profession to make this j n town his home permanently. During a his residence here he devoted his time to painting and, m that work, like all other in which he was ever engaged, he came to be known for his pro- ] 0 ficiency. He was a good man and his warmest friends were those who knew him best. He is survived by two children, Charles C. Slater, ot Mechanicsburg, and Mrs. James Drake, of this town, and two sisters, Mrs. E. Conn and Mrs. Abraham Balyeat, ot this town. The body will be brought home for burial. The funeral will be held at four-o'clock Monday afternoon, at his late residence, on West Mam street.vcIcIbvre1
