SURPRISE DINNERFOR MR. AND MRS. PICKENSUshered into the dining room on arrival at the Central Christian church last evening for the usual Fri day night rehearsal of ihe orchestra of which both are members, Mr and Mrs Jones Pickens found themselves guests at a beautifully appointed surprise dinner arranged in their honor by fellow musicians, relatives and friends The banquet tables were lovely with center bouquets of old fashioned garden flowers, creating a colorful setting for what proved lo be a genuinely delightful affair. Covers were laid for fifty. Including the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mis H. S. Hewitt, and Mr and Mrs. Joseph Pickens, parents of the bridegroom. Following dinner which was served by women of the church under the direction of Mrs. Harry Whitby, the newlyweds were presented with h gift from the entire group, the ptw sentation being made b M MCoohrau,The Pickens Hewitt nuptluls were solemnized June It* Mrs. Pickens has been a teacher in the North Pniou township schools, while Mr Pickensis a staff meiubei in the local postoffice.
