A very pleasant social evening was i enjoyed by several neighbors and! friends of David Shankland and fam- j ily at his home last Tuesday evening.: A choice program consisting of literary and musical selections, games j and refreshments, had been arranged for the occasion. Music by the Woodruff brothers with mandolins, George Shankland and Harry Leet with violins and Miss Shankland at the piano: also vocal selections by the Shankland family, were all highly enjoyed. A dialogue by several mem ! bers of the Shankland family, and arecitation by Mr. Shankland, Sr., 1 were well received. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Sanford also gave recitations. In the art gallery contest, Maud Grim got tirst prize, a neat pen-knife, and Gena Boyd the booby prize, a package of chewing gum. Choice refreshments of fruit, cake and lemonade were served. At a late hour the crowd departed, pronouncing their host and family delightful entertainers. It is only recently that j Mr. Shankland moved bis family here from Benton county. They have had the advantages of culture I afforded by high school, musical and I religeous training, also artistic train iog in oil painting and crayon portraiture. They have already proven themselves to be very desirable and welcome neighbors.
