Baboon Shot By PolicemanDog Faced Monkey Attacks Keeper at Detroit Lakes CarnivalDETROIT LAKES — A carnivalbaboon was shot and killed by a Detroit Lakes policeman Sunday morning after the animal attacked his caretaker and threatened people at the 20th Century Shows appearing at the fair grounds for the Northwest Water Carnival.Orville Reid. 65, member of the W. A. Schaeffer carnival, * was cleaning the baboon’s cage when the attack took place. He finally escaped from the animal but not before he had suffered multiple lacerations as a result of being clawed severely. Sixteen stitches were needed to close his wounds.Patrolmen Ray Thorpe and Robert Disse were called to the fair grounds shortly after the animal had escaped. They met the dogfaced ape as it came around one of the tents. Disse fired and struck the animal once, but he failed to bring it down Two more shotsfelled the baboon, which weighed about 100 pounds.Reid said the animal had bitten five other caretakers previously i and that it was dangerous.Anna Sand Is Called at 89Former Resident of Elbow Lake Dies In This CitvAn aged resident of the PioneerMemorial Home here died last night.
