County recreational facilities increaseBrown County residents enjoy living in one of the most scenic and productive areas in the state. Yet, only a few people realize the enormous recreation potential to be found in the county, remind local Soil Conservation Service officials.With the aid of the Soil Conservation Service and the Brown-Mills Soil and Water Conservation District, many landowners are developing private outdoor recreation enterprises which cater to the public. These landowners include Mrs. Ben Smith, A. P. Townsend, Ken (iober, Wesley Adams, Joe Dan Weedon, and others.Some landoweners are also developing recreation resources to be used by individuals, fishing clubs, recreation clubs, and hunting clubs on a leave basis. These people include Max Vestal,Julia Marr, and more.Thanks to these individual Brown County residents can find a recreation area within twnety miles from any point in the county, SCS figures show. These areas offer facilities for fishing, boating, swimming, overnight camping, hiking, and sightseeingMost area people planningvacations this summer are seeking places to enjoy these facilities. If they choose a distant tourist location to vacation in, they may spend much of their time driving and fighting crowds when a short drive might offer just as much, right in their own back yard. These areas are also excellent for weekend fun to get away from it all, notes the SCS.“Discover Brown County from Bangs to Blanket, May to Zephyr, and (Jrosvernor to Winchell, the SCS report urged area residents.SCS officials also reminded area residents to leave the recreation areas “cleaner than you found them*’ so landowners will continue to have them open to the public.Former B wood man promoted at BellaireBKLLAIRK — Joe Preston, formerly with the Brownwood fire department and now associated with the fire department at Bellaire, has been promoted to lieutenant effective July 15.Preston is married to the former Wilma Sheffield. The couple has two children, Alicia, 7, and Mark, 6.
