Pork Fed to 1,100; Miss Albrecht QueenAbout 1,100 persons ate pork chop dinners and 600 indulged in the introductory sandwich, porkburgers, and Mary Lou Albrecht, Bradford, became Bureau County Pork Queen Saturday as Pork Promotion week reached its climax with heavy emphasis on utilization of pork, the raising of which is bureau county s largest industry.More than 400 persons were served pork chop meals at noon, and the remaining 700 were fed in the evening. Nearly $2,000 was paid for the meals, which were sold at cost, not as a money-making venture, but to promote pork. The meat was cooked over a charcoal pit.Miss Albrecht, who won from a field of four contestants for pork queen, is the daughter of Mrs. Agnes Albrecht, Bradford,* and is the sister of Miss Betty Albrecht, who was pork queen in 1962-63. The Albrecht farm raises alxiut 200 to 250 hogs a year.Miss Deanna Broers, Walnut, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ver-den Broers, was first runner-up for pork queen.Other contestants were Miss Susan Anderson, LaMoille, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. DonAnderson, and Miss Cheryl Grubb, Buda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grubb.Miss Albrecht’s oral essay was named ‘‘Pork Promotion Fever,” and she stressed the necessity for pork producers toget feverish about promoting their product. She charged pork producers are only giving lip service to the idea of promoting their product. She asserted that nromotion has to come from the individual, and she said that a positive program of pork promotion needs money, a program, and direction.Miss Broers emphasized the importance of testing programs in developing the meat-type hog, and she pointed out the guide lines of having more than 30 per cent of the weight comprised of the four lean cuts.Miss Grubb praised pork as a high protein food with con-(Continued on page 4)
