Richard Grosvenor Exhibit Begins Today at Art MuseumPaintings by Richard Gros-vcror and liturgical art by Crimilda Pontes are latest f'xhibits at the Bristol ArtMuseum on Wardwell St and will be on display from today to July 21The museum is open daily from 1 to 5 p m and from 7 to 9 p m on Friday e\enings There is no admission chargeCrimilda PontesCrimilda Pontes the daugh-tei of Mr and Mrs Albert Pontes of 80 Wood St presently li\es m New Haven Conn She wa born in Somerset on Marchl.i 1026 Receiving her early ed-tKation in the Bristol public schools she was graduated in 1944 from Bristol Senior HighSchoolIn recalling her early education in Bristol, Miss Pontes stated “I would like it stressed that my interest in books and lettering to a large extent was enkindled and encouraged in its development under the guidance of Miss Jessie Molaskey, librarian at Guiteras Junior High School.Her fine library, and most important, her interest in thebooks as well as in the studentsusing them, was a great influence Miss Margaret Nerone's help during the formative high school years was invaluable I remember with deep gratitude the help and kind support of so many other wonderful teachers during my school life I would like them to know that' I am grateful Miss Pontes received her B F A degree from R I Schoolof Design and her M.FAdegree in graphics from Yale University. While at R1SD,she was a member of a special workshop in calligraphy directed by John Benson Howard and during her senior year served as an apprentice in Mr Benson's studio The John Stevens Shop in Newport.As an apprentice, she studied calligraphy, printing, wood engraving, layout for stoneinscriptions and related arts She also designed, set, andprinted Palatino’s The Instruments of Writing” in1948 A limited edition of the book was later reproduced by Chiswick Bookshop in New YorkMiss Pontes has served as an illustrator in the Audio Visual Aids Division of the Naval War College in Newport, an art instructor at Rosary Hill College, and art instructor at asummer session of St Joseph's College, and an assistant typographer for Yale Univ.
