Water Carnival Starts Tonight✓Detroit Lakes Expects20,000 For CelebrationDetroit Lakes, July 10—Detroit Lakes is preparing to entertain 20,-000 visitors this weekend, when theJunior Chamber of Commerce willsponsor its seventh annual Northwest Water Carnival. The celebration starts tonight and will continue until Sunday night.This evening the city band will play a concert of patriotic music in the city park and at 8:30 p. m. a radio program will bet broadcast. A dance at the pavilion will start at 9:00 p. m.Saturday the northwest tennis tournament will start, there will be a swimming meet and aquatic show at the city beach and a prevue of contestants for the. Miss Northwest title will be held. There will be a dance in the evening.Sunday at 5:00 a. m. the $300 fishing derby will start. Prizes of $50 war bonds will be given to thefisherman getting the biggest fish in each division.A victory parade is scheduled for 2:00 p. m„ with 30 floats and 15 marching units participating. Miss Gladys Norden's baton twirlers will be included. Park Rapids and Detroit Lakes ball teams will meet at 3:30 p. m., and at 4:00 p. m. there will be a band concert. Also at 4:00 p. m. is scheduled a water fight between fire departments from several northwest communities.The Miss Northwest contest will be held at 8:00 p. m., with about 25 girls competing for the title. The winner will be given ah expense-free trip to the Minneapolis Aqua-tennial. The queen will be crowned at ceremonies at midnight Sunday.
