I. Gilliland, director of the Black Hussar band, after the musicians 'had marched to the Indianapolis Orphans* Asylum fromWonderland park, where they are playing’, and gave a concert for the little folks on the front lawn of the institution, beneath the big shadetrees, Friday afternoon.I never enjoyed, a concert so muchbefore, added -the bandmaster and the clapping of those tiny handsaeemed to inspire the men more than •the applause of thousands under different circumstances/’Gilliland’s Black Hussar band gave an hour’s concert for the orphans* exclusive benefit. More than one hundred boys and girls of the institution sat on the grass and listened to the music. It was an event In their lives and they will doubtless talk about it for days to come.There are about 135 children andbabies in the orphanage now, but some of them were too little or too sick to be taken outdoors. The sick children were held up before the windows of tue hospital building, however, and given a glimp6e of the happy party outside and permitted to remain near enough to the windows to -hear a part of th© concert.10 the surprise and delight of the ■musicians, the children themselves turned entertainers and sang a number of songs lustily. Kight of the baitdmen sang two rollicking songs, Boys of the Ohi Brigade and The JoQly Blacksmith’s Song and the children closed the concert with their flag ceremonies.
