July 7.—The appear ance of eight Terre Haute negToes in Linton Monday was the cause of a demonstration in which the men narrowly escaped serious injury. Alex -'anderson. a Terre Haute caterer was employed to serve the banquet it he institution of a new lodge of the Elks. He took his cooks and waiters with him. and while the negroes wen* n the hall several thousand miners assembled in the street and threatened to dynamite the building unless the negroes were sent out of town. The ?ight colored men were hurried Into a cab and driven to Jasonville. where they were put on the train for 'FerreHaute. Six policemen hung on the carriage and l»eat back the crowdwhile the negroes were being driven out of town.
