The services id j were opened with the singing of the hymn, “Lead Kindly Light,” by a quartette choir. Rev. I)r. Schaff, pastor of ■b- Westminster Presbyterian church, il J read the Scripture lesson and offered ft prayer, after which Rev. H. M. Nichols and J. P. Lippincott. 111 obituary. Pn j Mrs. Crampton was the only daugh- !ter of Prof. Hart, of Farmington,: 1edConn., and was born in 1820. She re-9eeived a liberal education in early life,and was known as a lady of rare cul-wo13cretture and refinement. She was united i i h in marriage with Prof. Rufus C. (Vamp- Hoeton in 1852, and soon after her mar-! riage she removed with her husband to j Jacksonville, where he began his work in Illinois College. After a life of re-13lt;lt;ihdai5markable usefulness and devotion to j the cause of education, Prof. Cramp- orf ton passed away seven years ago, and [\ ' 1 j only a few years later his only son, Ed- j j ward, followed him to the grave. Since j iuc the death of her husband ami son, Mrs. pri1 jCrampton found a home with Miss! Elizabeth Russel, where the remaining ■ days of her life were passed amid the I | most delightful surroundings that aj loving and devoted friend could supply. Her last illness began some months ago, and lagrippe was primarily the cause of her death. She is survived by three grandchildren, Roy, Bernice and Rufus Crampton.procroturn
