Bit of history. The Rosebud City Lake was built on land donated by the Wloser Family back in tin* late teens, and the dam was constructed bv man and mull* and dirt slip, with the host possible job being done under these circumstances. The dam has slipped several times, and has been repaired just as many times, but the latest break has been the most damaging and dangerous. This latest break began several months ago when cracks appeared in the road surface atop the dam. These cracks widened, and became deep breaks, and then came the sliding of a 200 foot wide portion towards the backside of the dam. Heavy rains caused further damage and more slippage.Water was drained from the lake by hammering out a large V shaped portion of the concrete spillway and drawdown tubes further lowered the lake level in an effort to decrease the water pressure against the front of the dam. Something worked, for the front part of the damaged area is still standing, and for the present the citizens of Rosebud still have lake water.
