She was recently graduated from Neville High school and has been proclaimed as one of Louisiana’s most outstanding girls, having been named governor of Girl’s State in1951. #Barbara, who served as a majorette and cheer leader at Neville High school, has recently taken entrance exams for admittance to the New Orleans Charity Hospital nursing class. Barbara’s reason for entering nurses training is that she j thinks she will be able to helpmore people as a nurse.Miss Barker made her debut with the Little Theater of Monroe in a recent production of Abbie's . Irish Rose,” portraying the part j of Rosemary. While a student at j Neville High school, Barbara was a member of the Thespians club, Science club. Lambda Sigma Chi and Beta Delta sororities. iMiss Collingston. Ann Boyd, was named as Miss Congeniality by a vote taken among the many contestants for her kindness and unselfishness throughout the three nights ■of performances.Other contestants in the beauty pageant were Miss Natchitoches. Louise Vick; Miss Madison Parish Annette Smith, Miss Springfield, Leoni Jubbin, Miss Tallulah. Barbara Horn, Miss Bastrop, Jimmye ;Watkins.The three - day pageant, sponsored bv the Northeast Louisiana I Sports Carnival Association, Inc., \ was attended by thousands of persons from not only the state of Louisiana but from all over the1 nation.The nightly shows of the beauty pageant, which were directed by ;Bob Evans, one of the most fam- jous master of ceremonies in the country, were highlighted by the | appearance of one of the seven judges on the stage, Bill Bigley, radio announcer of Magnolia. Ark. who performed many clever acts, j The judges of the state contest were as follows: Miss CharlotteSimmen, Miss Arkansas of 1951; Jack Carnes, business man from Camden. Ark.; Bob Chowning, producer of the Miss Arkansas beauty pageant; Mrs. W. M. Beard, noted designer from Memphis j Tenn.; Jeff Foley, business manager for a number of state beautypageants and Bill Bigley.Water skiing by national champions, a large air show by the air force, motor boat races and trick flying were also presented by the ! Sports Carnival Association during the three days of the pageant.
