The Roads up the Knobs*Col. W. W. Tuley owns a private roadway up the knobs, leading from Main street, which he has always taken pleasurein keeping open for the accommodation ofthe public. The road, however, is continued over and through the property of Mr. George Tuley, who, annoyed by the many persons passing over it, has forbidden its use by the public. A great many people, however, who do not know this pass up the private roadway, only to be met at Mr. George Tuley's line, when he is at home and ordered back down the hill. The best way would be to post a notice, for the benefit of strangers, at the foot of the hill. There is a public road up the knob from the foot of Market street, and another by way of Cherry street. These roads afford good drives and everyone is at liberty to use them. It will be well for people visiting the knobs, and particularly the reservoirs of the water works, to remember that the road through Mr. George Tuley’s place is forbidden the public and is private property. It is stated that Mr. Tuley has said he will shoot people who persist in using his road, and in the ahsence of a posted notice at the Main street end of the road to warn strangers off, there is danger of serious trouble, and possible blood-shed. Therefore, post the road at the foot of the knob and let people use the roads 011 Market and Cherry streets.
