Attempt to Km,.—Edward Cully, aoj Irishman, was tried by the Circuit Court last week, with Judge Camden or, thebench, for attempting to kill Miss Hau-i inah Bartlett, a very estimable and wor- j ' thy young lady of this plaee. While I walking out one day, she was attacked by Cully with stones, one of which hit ! the hair on the back part of her head, and would probably have killed her had it struck a little further forward. She escaped into the house of a friend. Cully was arrested, tried and found guilty by the jury, who fixed bis punishment at one year in the penitentiary. He had been drinking for some time, and had disturbed the peace by his boisterous conduct. Col, \\ ilson and Charles T. Harrison prosecuted the case, and E. M. Davisson and Geo. W. Lurty were assigned as counsel for the defendant.
