The wind was about 40 mph in the bay, so we had to wait for it to clear up.Stanford's catch of 3.26 pounds was good enough to lead the flounder category, but it was far behind the largest haul in the event to this point. Troy Tullos held that distinction with the 143.4-pound gar he reeled in Wednesday.The largest bull redfish brought in came from Teague Mize's boat, a 37-pounder that was also caught on the fust day of the Fiesta,Barrett disagreed to some extent as far as the rain hurting the size or quantity of the fish being caught. He was optimistic about the action improving Not by my standards, he said.It's been a good first two days. A lot of people will be off (today) and there are a lot fishing (Thursday night) so it will pick up.In other news from the Fiesta,, a queen as already assumed the throne. Sarah Swansey was crowned queen Wednesday night and also is participating in the event. Her dad, Mike, was leading the trout category with a top haul of 7.84 pounds.Another one of Thursday's big leaders was Duane Davis, who topped the board in three categories, including Adult offshore king mackerel, red snapper and bonita.The spearfishing was another division that saw some action of Thursday.Jackie Reed and Jake Cryer both registered catches in the amber or crevalle jack category. Reed brought in the top two fish.Though he topped the board with his Fiesta-high flounder, Stanford was hopeful the fishing would be better over the weekend.I hope it gets better, Stanford said. The forecast looks about the same. I'm going offshore tomorrow.
