Entertainers toAppear Aug.20-24Headliners for the 110th Great Jones County Fair, Aug. 20-24, in Monticello were announced this week by fair officials.Tentatively scheduled for appearances here are such greats as Ray McKinley and the Glenn Millerorchestra; James Darren, star of the motion picture Diamond Head; Edwin L. Baron, who will play a return engagement; the Osmond Brothers from the Andy Williams show, and Peter Palmer, recording artist.The Fair will open Tuesday, Aug. 20, with Kids' Day, Most rides on the midway will be offered at half price until 9 p.m. Six bicycles will be given away following the evening show.Billed for both the afternoon and evening shows Tuesday is the International Showtime Circus.WEDNESDAY SHOWSWednesday afternoon's show will feature Jonny Rivers* Golden Horse troupe. Fourteen rodeo and circus acts will be presented, including trick riding, Brahma bull acts, midget mule acts and many others.The world famous Glenn Miller orchestra under the direction of Ray McKinley will highlight the Wednesday evening show. Also slated to appear that night are Edwin L. Baron, hypnotist, who was a hit at last year's fair, and movie star James Darren, who played the part of Dean in the motion picture Diamond Head.The Glenn Miller orchestra will play a return engagement Thursday evening. Others slated for the program are the Rythm Masters, seven teenage boys who present a dancing and comedy act. Edwin Baron will also present a second show.Horseracing will be featured both Thursday and Friday afternoon.COUNTRY MUSICA program of country and western music will be presented Friday evening. On tap are George Jones, country music recording star; Sonny James, recording artist and Grand Ole Opry star; Carmel Gowan, known for her rope tricks; Lou Prohut and his Square Dancers, and Roy Clark, whose speciality is doing anything funny.Stock car races are scheduled for Saturday afternoon.Peter Palmer, his Voices and Orchestra, will appear on the Saturday night show. His group includes 12 musicians and 4 vocalists. Also appearing will be the Osmond Brothers, ranging in age from 13 to 7, are known for their barbershop harmony.(Con’t on page A-4)
