In light of the recent heat, it is not recommended that we use fireworks at homeFireworks can be deadlv and or danger ous in the wrong hands, there is a spot in my mother's yard that still hasn't quite recovered from a little encounter with children and fireworks that got a little out of handThe yard remained barren looking for a couple of years. The grass that has finally grown there Is coarse, and difficult to cut. Fortunately the grass was the only one that suffered any permanent damage. The children were all OK Letting the pro-fcsskmals use fireworks is the best idea It’s a hard alternative when the closest professionals seem to be located in BarbourvilleIt deeply saddened me to see that Williamsburg, Corbin and London all three dec-lined on fireworks displays for the public Admittedly. 1 have never been to a display in London 1 can remember several that I attended in Corbin that were very enjoyable. The ones in Williamsburg were quite good at one time as well Those were my personal favorites since my mother lived in a location where she had a bird's eye view without ever leaving her house. Watermelon on the front porch while we waited and the chi!GAILFREEMANdren playing In the yard became almost a tradition for a while.Those days have been gone for quite a few years.The reason for not having a display- is lack of support. Store owners don't want to be involved in sponsoring a firew-orks dis play. They can definitely be involved in taking the money that consumers drag into their stores day after day. but when it comes to putting money back out to sponsor an event like this, they aren’t interestedU-t's be realistic It’s expensive. Insurance is high on fireworks display. There are a lot of valid reasons that store owners don't want to be involved in fireworks displays. I just don’t believe lack of interest should one of them. How would they feel if the consumers all decided that they had no interest in their business? It might suddenly seem to these people that their interests were misplaced.Despite the grumblings that I, and quite a few others f know, might have, we are left to go elsewhere to celebrate the Fourth Sure we are welcomed to stay here I did that last year. In fac-t, my family and I stayed home last year bn theFourth and barbecued with my brother and his girls in the evening According to the children, it was not the Fourth of July There were no fireworks, there was nothing sparkling or special about the day.According to them, we did something we could have done on any other given day of the year. Children, we must remember, are a hard crowd to please.My children made me promise them last year that we would see fireworks on the Fourth thLs year So like many other TYi countians I will be going in search of fireworks. I’m not sure where I will be heading out to. Barbourville seems to be the one most recommended. My sister went last year and agrees that they do a superb joti. There will also be fireworks in Jellico.
