Considerable interest was manifest m this race and large sum of money occassionaly* were put up.Before the horses were half way a round it was quite clear that j joug John had first place, G;p and Maud S were working well togetuei, DolJie A and Joe Stick bring up the rear. All ponies to be 14 hands and under. There seemed to be more interest taken iu this race than any of the others. Fleming’s pouv took first money, Duu-caiTs second and Crawford’s tJ ird.ATHLETIC SPORTS.Not much interest was taken in these. In the 100 yfds race there were four entries — Messrs McLain, Hornsby, Breaky and Walton.The prizes woie given in the order named.—First three.UAL?-MILE RACE,Three entries—Hornsby, McLain and Creaky Herns by and McLain ran around the course, winning in the order named. Breaky did not run.We are pleased to say no accidents happened on the grounds and the Brandon Turf are to be complimented upon the satisfactory manner in which the races were conducted. The amount taken at the gate being over $140,LA4 SOS.SK .HATCH—Draw Game.Iu this match the Rapid City men were much heavier men than the home team, yet our hoys showed themselves to good advantage, aud we have no cause to feel ashamed of them. The ball was faced at 1.40 p. m.. and some excellent playing done by both teams. The first game was taken iu IS minutes by Rapid City. In the second game, the ball was thrown past the goal by the Kapid City men. This state of af-s was not to be tolerated by the home team, and they entered the third game to win, and they did it in an hour and forty minutes. The fourth game was brought to a close in short order, by the home team passing the ballUiof a base wJiii stad I of al | won onethrough tkegofd iu 7 minutes.
