Nation s birthday a cause for celebrationWell, if it isn’t already July 4th of the year 2004.Every day I ask myself where does time actually go anyway?Time and history were beyond my understanding in the long ago schools. I knew that remembering dates was important but I didn’t give a hoot about the dates for anything that happened in those early days. What was important to me at that time was what was to be showing at the Plaza or State Theaters. I certainly didn’t want to miss anything. The really sad part is that the dates that were so important then were so far away in my memory that they slipped righton out the topknot.Historical interest didn’t work its way into my head until my own children showed lots of concerns for historical spots. When we began the three weeks vacations in the summer time we began to understand just how much history meant to them and what it should mean to me. The Civil War fields, Washington D.C., and even Custer’s Last Stand were on the list of interesting sights to see as were manymore, r• ✓In those old days and country living and it was July the 4th, we knew there would be city cousins visiting and they’d bringReflectionsDorothy Taylormm-- . ■rmmV'*1 . • 4 « * « • • / 4 4 fv. . .. . ; ;X ■-mwm..y.y. .VVV.v.vW'.v.■■mm* •along lots of fireworks. Dad usually bought us sparklers and a few firecrackers that we were willing for him to light and throw. But, those city cousins always came from the busy citybecause they realized they could* ♦pop all the noisemakers they desired at our house on the farm. And then, one day I woke up to the realization that the UnitedStates of America is really a fine nation. With all its many problems at least folks had one thing on their minds, learning more about how to keep our Nation great.Af A time to celebrate has always been on the agenda. We need to be pleased with who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re heading. Celebrating together a nation’s accomplishments can be rewarding. And, we know full well there’ll always be those trouble makers present who try to spoil it all.All the Aunts and Uncles and even a few of the city cousins have already been placed on thehistorical list of the past. They lived their time as best they could and left their small marks in their neighborhoods and abiding places. Hopefully each of us at least remembers to be grateful for the life we live in a “free country” and hope in spite of every interruption it shall remain free. Yes indeed, July the 4th is very meaningful to all of us. So, happy holiday you all.James 4:14 “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
