Algona Woman Has Made 400 Braided Rag RugsBy Evelyn Cady.Mrs. Elva Coon can toll you^ v ■more about rugs than anyone else in town, and I wouldn’t be afraid to make the statement cover Kossuth county, or even Iowa, for after having made more than 400 rugs of various sizes, I figure she is very well qualified as an authority.Several years ago she began making braided rugs, so beautiful and so well made she was at once beseigcd with orders. At nresent she has one completed for a woman at Cedar Rapids. It is a 9x12 foot size and is made of nil wool, mostly gray with shades of blue and a little tan.She has made eight room-sizc rugs, one for each of her daugh-iprs. Mrs. John Thompson, Mrs. Paul Bloom, of Seneca, 111., and Mrs. Paul Klink, of Maxwell, and the rest for patrons. She has made scatter rugs for her daughters-in-law and host of them for patrons. The room-size rugs are 9x12 feet as a rule, but she made one of extra size, an llxi5'^ feet. All are oval shaped and Mrs. CnnYi begins them with a straight strip down the conler.'I no beaut1/ of the rugs is clue to her artistic color arrangement and careful shadings, as well as the excellent workmanship.
