THREE HELD ON MURDER CHARGE;Behind the bars of the local jail is ( one condemned murderer and two other -prisoners charged with capital crimes; the first being Frank Johnson, the hU~ ) ter two, Thomas O'Toole and Gaetano ( Lenrino, an Italian accused of killing , a fellow countryman at West Pittsburg (about two months ago.All three look forward with apparent , indifference to their probable fate. TTheir incarceration is personally con- } aidered merely as a matter of fact and , as the result of unlawful acts commit- jtef. or at least supposed to ha\e been tcommitted by them. That their lives ^ will expiate their crimes is a thought , aparently not nurtured by any of the trio, not even Johnson. who stands (practically in the shadow of the gal- jlows. Time will tell the fate of all. evenif present conditions and circum- (stances forbid a look into the future ( and a prophecy concerning the final chapter in the story of the three mur- j ders committed in the county during jthe past year.A visit to the jail and a siuht ot these |three prisoners naturally recalls the , crimes committed by them, and tlu fact that fellow men and companions t have forfeited their lives by reason of , the acts of the imprisoned. One cannot , help but feel a certain creeping sensa- , tion when he looks at the prisoners and , anticipates the extreme penalty of the ( law they must endure if convicted. , Men charged with murder, with their , lives hanging in a balance to le sway- , ed either for or against them by the , weight of evidence produced. ,
