»♦#» -A Surprise,On last Friday evening an elegant supper was given by friends and relatives in honor of J. B. Butcher, of Ervin township, it being his 39th birthday. Mr. Butcher was away from home and on returning found a large crowd awaiting to congratulate him. No pains were spared by those having control of the affair to make it a success. The crowd numbered about ninety. All ages were represented—from the gray haired father and mother down to the little child. The occasion was a most enjoyable one, and the young folks showed their appreciation of John, as they were there by the dozen. The supper was an elegant one. Everything good was selected and never did people seem to enjoy good things belter. Much credit is certainly due the persons who arranged the table. A number of presents were presented, among which as a fine gold watch chain from Mrs. Butcher. After sup per the guests were highly entertained by Mr. Alexander, who presided at the organ. At ten o'clock the crowd dispersed, wishing the return of many such happy gatherings. Below are the names of the older persons present: Laben Thomas and wife, Michael Beckner and wife, Richard Kerr and wife, David Staley and wife, David Dillman and wife, Jacob Ault and wife, S. T. Butcher and wife, Rev, Keesey and wife, R. P. Butcher and wife.—A Friend.
