Chautauqua series returns to San Juan CollegeFARMINGTON — NewMexico history comes to life with the San Juan College Chautauqua Series when Rosemary Keefe, Ph.D.,E resents Mabel Dodge uhan in Taos at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, in the Little Theatre.Luhan fell in love with New Mexico in 1917. She hosted salons in Florence and New York for early 20th century artists, writers, and political rabble-rousers, but was restless until she found her true home in Taos with Tony Luhan, where she hosted artists inspired by the landscape including Mary Austin, Willa Cather, D.H.Lawrence, Jon Marin, Ansel Adams, Georgia O'Keeffe and others.In this performance, Keefe portrays Luhan as she interacts with guests (mid-1930s) and reveals her search for psychic and spiritual integrity through her passionate relationships.Keefe has taught writing, literature and women's studies in the United States and abroad. She served as Dean of Faculties at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, head of English at Missouri State University, and Director of Women's Studies at Rollins College. She is also a published author and has presented research on African I Americans, feminist drama, I women's lives and feminist I spirituality for the past 30 I years.
