Stake Asked To SupportHome family evenings and the Sunday School /programs were in the limelight during the South Sanpete quarterly conference last Sunday, Jan. 16th in the Manti Center Ward.Visiting authorities were Elder George Z. Aposhitan of the Priesthood Home Teaching Committee and /Elder 'Elmer J. Hartvigsen of the General Sunday School Board.(Music for the Sunday sessions was presented (by the Manti Choir under the direction of J. Evan Bean and accompanied by Maude -Reid.In the morning session the Choir Sang “Praise Ye The Father” -by Gounod, “Hold Thou My Hand” and “I Kneel To -Pray.”Several ordinations in the priesthood were presented by Stake President Vernon L. Kunz. All those presented were from Ephraim. They are: Don L. Christensen (West Ward), elder to high priest.(LaVon Nielson (North Ward) seventy to high priest.Hans iReed Christensen, seventy to high priest (South Ward).Shirley Zabriskie (South Ward), elder to high priest.Alvin Green (West Ward), seventy to high priest.William C. Christiansen (South Ward), seventy to high priest,Jimmy Reed Nelson (South Ward), priest to elder.President Kunz said /that the South Sanpete Stake was tied for tenth position in the dnirch in the three-generation sheets program He said that a 33 per cent record had been attained in this stake which he felt was a commendable start. Leading the list was the BYXJ th Stake which recorded 100 per cent. South Sanpete Stake ;urned in a total of 2,619 sheets. Utah Stake at Provo md Star Valley Stake in Af* :on, Wyoming were -the other avo stakes tied for 10th place.President Kunz also stated .hat this stake committed itself in a November meeting leld in Ely, Nevada, to wise ts fast offering donations in 1966 to $4.00 per capita. He said that the 1964 per capita vas $2.71 and last year it was J2.77. Sorensen, Kendall Keller and Moyle Blaekham.The turkey industry is the largest single industry in Sanpete County, valued at an excess of 14 million dollars a year. The success of this industry has been assured through the continual application of scientific research in turkey production in this area.This (turkey short course provides the means by which the turkey producers keep themselves up-to-date on the latest tcchnioal information -that will apply to their turkey production operations.ramshe expressed his appreciation for this experience.(Martha Keeler (Paul), (Manti, said that she felt the home evening program had helped cultivate better relations between parents and youth and provided an 'opportunity for overyone to express (themselves.Connie Sorensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rey Sorensen of Manti, said that although they had not been able to •hold their frimily evenings regularly, they had .thoroughly enjoyed them.Elder Hartvigsen praised the work of the schools and seminaries in the, development of the youth. He told the $!rory of the Osmond Brothers from Ogden, friends of his, and how they had got their start in (the family home evening programs. He said that in (addition to a study of (the gospel they had studied music. Their career mas launched in ward activities, next community and now they are known around (the world.Parents should show love and teach their children the right things to do, was the advice of Elder George Z. Aposhian. He told an illustration about how many fathers are busy doing things for others and often neglect their own family.He pointed out that parents should be good examples and live the principles of the gospel each day so that their children will see them living righteously.(Elder Aposhian pointed out (that Latter-daj^Saints should not condemn persons who may smoke or drink but rather try to be tolerant and help them. He told the story of a father of 10 children and how he was brought into activity.The invocation for the morning session was given by Ma-Coy Larsen of Ephmim with Lloyd R. Nielsen of Manti offering the benediction.The choir in the afternoon session sang “How Lovely Are The Messengers” by Mendelssohn, “The Holy City,” with solo by Carol Lowry and “The Lord’s Prayer.” The choir was under the direction -of J. Evan Bean and accompanied by Mrs. ■Maude Reid. Julia Ann Lowry played prelude and postlude music on the organ.President R. Clair Anderson spoke of the value of paying a full tithe. He told the story of the days of President Lorenzo Snow when the LDS Church was heavily in debt and how church members were told to pay their tithes.The theme of President Milton G. Armstrong’s talk was (taking an interest in helping others. He pointed out the Alcoholics Anonymous organization as being a good example of this type of service.Mrs. Donald Dobson was called on to speak and paid tribute to her husband as a loving and devoted father. She told how much joy her testimony had brought to her.Elder Aposhian told members that they had kept their first estate in Heaven and now are 'being tried in the Second. He told the story of the conversion of his parents to the church while in Armenia and the following hardships which plagued his family. He also told of his being sent on a mission to California, the one place he didn’t want to go -to, and how it tunned out that he was sent to an Armenian colony in Fresno and of the groat work he was able to do there.(Elder Hartvigsen also -told of his ancestors who were some of the first converts in Norway and how they' were mistreated and put in jail. He said (that no time since the time of Noah has the earth been in such danger of destruction.Elder Hartvigsen pointed •out that ithere has never been a greater disregard of laws. He said that people have the attitude that if they don’t like ia law, they have the right to •break it. He said the Lord will help everyone do right if they will but give him the opportunity.The opening prayer was offered by Clayton Stout of Ephraim with the benediction being given by Alpbonso Henrie.
