CITY JUDGE OF MUNCIE IS DEAD OF THE GRIP AND RHEUMATISM(Special to Tb« Indiana poll* News)IfUNCIEJ, Ind., January IS.—Ralph S.Gregory, city judge of Muncle, pantgreat Incohonee of the Independent Orderof Red Men, a lawyer and a Democraticpolitician known throughout the easternpart of the state, died of the grip andrheumatism in a local sanatorium Saturday night, after an Illness of several weeks. He was conscious nearly to the end and conversed with friends during the day. j —~Judge Gregory's history is closely a!/ lied with that of the city itself. He was born in Delaware county seventy-flve years ago. After being graduated from the Muncia high school he entered Wabash college, where his studies were interrupted by the outbreak of the civil war, during most of which he served as a private in Company B, EightJ’-fourth Indiana infantry* but finally became an orderly sergeant. Ill health compelled him to leave the service before the war's end, and on coming home he resumed his studies in Wabash, remaining there through his Junior year, but then chang- J ing to Asbury college, now DePauw university, from which he was graduated with the class of 1867. The following yearhe became superintendent 4t schools InHuntington, Ind., and at the same time l^ad charge of a classical school in Wabash. Soon afterward he returned to Muncle and lived her« thereafter, for a while being superintendent of the Delaware county schools, but devoting himself to the study of law, in which profession he was successful.Judge Gregory was especially well known a.Kri criminal lawyer. He wouldH not take up the side ol’ the prosecution in a criminal case, however, because, he said, hia heart never was with theRALPH S. GREGORY.Red Men and never failed to attend the annual meeting of the council. Several years ago he served as great incohonee, which is the hiehest office in the order.
