New officers are Charlene Winter, president; Mariann Bradley, vice president; Emma Garrett, secretary; and Alice Eisele, treasurer.Educational program chairs are Frances Hill, citizenship; Marsha Adkinson, cultural arts, textiles and clothing; Mary Ross, family life; Helen Kampschroeder, family resource management; Aliene Bieber, health, food and nutrition; Charlene Winter, housing, energy and environment; Catherine Nichols, international; Ruth Ice, safety; Jean Etherton, membership; Marla Royer, young homemakers.Martha Skeet presented a program called “Growing Healthy.” This is a way of teaching health lessons used in the Lawrence school district from kindergarten through sixth grade.Dennis Bejat, the new DouglasCounty extension director, was introduced.A skit on family community leadership was presented by Diane Helmuth, Glenna Felts, Waneta Willits and Charlene Winter.KAW VALLEY EHU will meet 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the home of Frances Cleveland, 1701 Ind. Programs will be “Cultural Arts” and crochet and candlewicking. Members are to bring a craft item for “show and tell.”CLINTON EHU and families met Tuesday at the Clinton Town Hall for a earry-in supper. The program was slides of Lois and Floyd Gaines’ and Joyce and Alvin Schild’s 1988 trips to Alaska. Hostesses were Lois and Betty Gaines. President Angie Fishburn presided over a short meeting.FIVE AND 50 EHU will meet 1:30 p.m. Monday at the home of Laura Sample, 736 N. Fourth. The lesson topic is food and nutrition for health in later years.CENTRAL EHU will meet 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Clara Johanning. The lesson will be ‘ 'Remodeling’ * by Wincel Jehle.VICE PRESIDENT Jim Friberg called to otrder the monthly meeting of Palmyra 4-H Club on Jan. 4. Junior vice president Jered Stone served as vice president for the meeting.Secretary Rhonda Rockers read the minutes of the previous meeting, and treasurer Debbie Friberg gave her report.Rhonda Rockers was recognizedas a state award winner in newswriting, and Jim Friberg was recognized as a finalist for National 4-H Ambassador.Community leader Claudia Guthrie reviewed important future11. .. i_____close to meeting its goal of $20 a member to become a Gold Level Club in the fund-raising program.Merrie Skaggs reviewed various events for County Club Days and members signed up to participate.Carol Francq announced that a parents committee meeting will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Crystal Williams.The club voted to have a skating party, and Lisa Brown will gather information and report back to the club.Prospective members were Jesse Brown and Josh Brumm. New members joining were Kelly, Wylee and Raily Taul and Betsy Madl.Matt Milburn gave a project talk on poultry and Carrie Williams talked about her crocheted baby afghan. Jean Gottstein demonstrated how to make a pillow, and Debbie Friberg showed how to make easy Super Bowl snacks.Lisa Brown led recreation.STEPHEN KALB talked about woodworking and Angela Wilson about sitter safety during the Jan. 3 meeting of Vinland Valley 4-H Club. Members plan to present a play, “Billy Bart, Scourge of the West,” Feb. 11 at County Club Days.Palmyra 4-H Club will evaluate Vinland Valley’s March meeting.Hosts for the January meeting were the Burgess and Good families.The recreation committee discussed a possible trip to the Ice Capades. The club also received $175 for the cookies it provided to the Farmland Industries Christmas party.The group’s next meeting is Feb.6.HAPPY DAYS EHU will meet 7:30 p.m. Monday at the home of Lynette Breithaupt. The lesson topic will be volunteers.The unit enjoyed an annual Christmas family dinner at the home of Mrs. Harry Christian.Members donated canned food.♦MEMBERS OF Lucky Clover 4-H Club made fruit baskets for elderly people in the community during their December meeting. BJ Thriftway of Tonganoxie helped fill the baskets.The club also had a big Christmas party in the community building.The next meeting will be Tuesday at the community building.LONE STAR 4-H Club had itsmonthly meeting Jan. 9 at Wakarusa Valley Grade School. The program included talks by Loren Baldwin, Tyler Coats, Stephanie Flory, Marnie Anderson and Bo Wempe. Refreshments were provided by the Bell, Roger Flory and Garber families.
