The family moved to Buffalo Center from Phoenix, Arizona November 24 and live in the house they purchased from the Ruby James Estate of 107 3rd Street NW.Shelly, who was bom in the Clear Lake area, moved with her family at an early age to Phoenix, Arizona. She graduated from high school there in 1986 and attended Phoenix College for two years. Jim, who was bom in Ohio, moved with his family at an early age to Phoenix. He graduated from South Mountain High School in Phoenix and worked as an aerospace machinist for nine years before moving to Buffalo Center. The couple was married in 1987 and Shelly worked at the Humana Hospital there as a certified nursing assistant.The Kirk family decided to move to this area after Shelly's parents moved back to the Clear Lake area last fall. It was Shelly’s mother, in fact, who located the James house for the family. They said they like Buffalo Center because it is a nice small town - the kids can ride their bikes and not worry about being hit and the schools are good, too. We really like it here ~ we especially like the people, Shelly said. Jim is currently working for his father-in-law who has a catering business in Clear Lake until he can find full-time work.
