]The Case of Mr. H umpitreys.Major General Hovey has issued a general order containing tbe finding of the Military Commission in (he case of Andrew Humphreys, the sentence and its modification by the military commandant of this district. The order recites thecharges and specifications upon which Mr. Humphreys was tried before the commission, and the finding of the com-mission upon each, and then gives the sentence, which reads as follows:“And the commission do, therefore, sentence him, the said Andrew Humphreys, a citizen of the State of Indiana, to be confined at hard labor dvring the xoar, ot avck place as the proper authority maydesignate”Thereupon General Hovev issues thefollowing general order, changing* and modifying the sentence of the commission :II. The proceedings, findings and sentence, in the foregoing case of AndrewHumphreys, a citizen of the State of Indiana, United States-of America, are approved, but as the evidence does not showthat the said Andrew Humphreys took any active part or committed any overt acts which were calculated to incite aninsurrection, or aid the conspiracy, and in view of his former good character and lengthy- confinement, Col. A. J. Warner, 17th Regt. V. 11. C., commanding post at Indianapolis, Indiana,, will discharge tbe said Andrew Humphreys, upon the following conditions, viz:That the said Andrew Humphreys give his parole of honor that he will confine himself wsthin the limits of Wright and! Stockton• 'townships, in the county of Greene, in the State of Indiana, during the term of the present war of the rebellion, and further, that be will take no part,! directly or indirectly, against the prose-! cut ion of the present war by the United Slates, against the rebels now in arms.Upon the breach of said parole by the said Andrew Humphreys, he will be immediately arrested and delivered to thecommanding officer at Covington, Kentucky, who is charged with the executionof the sentence, in conformity with tbefinding of the commission.JSITThe Evansville Journal copies the concluding paragraph of our article in regard to tbe sentence of Hon, Andy Humphreys, in our paper two weeks ago, and adds:We should think that the Democratwould feel bad. It had much to do in en-eouratrmsr the organization of the soeie-O O Dties whose treasonable teachings led soCDmany men astray, and induced them to commit treason. Their blood is upon the skirts of those who encouraged them in their mad projects, and taught them to believe that they would be sustained by the people. The above is wholly false. We have never joined any secret political society, nor aided or encouraged their organization. On the contrary we have uniformly advised Democrats to have nothing to do with them, but to leave them to Know1Nothings and Union Leaguers, their original founders.jlS^The Indianapolis Sentinel says that on Tuesday the negro residents in that virtuous community celebrated, two daysafter date, the issuing of President Lincoln’s emancipation proclamation, with a band playing throughout the principalstreets, and a procession of big bucks, wenches and pickaninnies. They had, to all appearances, a jolly good time.
