Allie M. Mowen, 45. widow of George Mowen, committed suicide at her home ih Glenridge about 10:45 last night by shooting hereelf through the heart with a .38 calibre revolver, death occur-ing instanaly. She had been in falling health lor *ome time and recently suffered a nervoua breakdown occasioned through despondency over the death of her hueband and her ill health, members of the family testified at the coroner's inquest held at the Bogc Agey funeral home this moaning.The witnesses testifying were her son, Robert Mowen, visiting here from Detroit. Mich., and herson-in-law, George Tyler, who with hia wife, made bis home with Mrs. Mowen. The testimony of thlt;: two was to the effect that Mrs. Mowen had been extremely despondent for the past few day® more so than ever yesteroay ornoon and evening. They ehe retired at her usual timethat after she was in bed, shegiven some medicine that she been taking for her ailment.Tyler, his wife and his brother-in-law then returned to ano»herroom in the house and were getting ready to retire when the report of the gun sent them hurrying into Mrs. Mowen's bed room.She was de-ad when they reachedher.Mrs. Mowen was the widow o' George Mowen. for some time up;o hi* death, hoisting engineer atthe Glenridge mine of the MarionCounty Coal company. The couple came here about seventeen yeare ago from Giillespie and both were natives of Jerseyville, where MrsMowen had a sifter, Mrs. EdithWilson end other relatives residing now.
