How often do you get seven guys in a room together, and all agree that you have to do the same thing?Hidlebaugh said he was ecstatic about how the rebuilt monument has turned out, and how quickly the work got done.We never thought we'd get this far this year (2010), Hidlebaugh told the Argus in late December.The project saw a lot of public support, not just from residents of Stony Mountain but from all over the municipality. It wasn't just people, business people thatjust resided in Stony Mountain. It was business folks who reside in the whole municipality, which really made this such a huge community project, Hidlebaugh says.Julia Lee, a resident of Stony Mountain, spent years working on the former Stony Mountain Legion's executive trying to get the cenotaph restored, as did her late husband George, who passed away several years ago. Julia decided to take a look at the new cenotaph when it was put back in its place and was very impressed by what she saw.“I think it's wonderful, I really do... It's really a big, big improvement, where the two flags fly, and with the nice walk up there. she says.She says that seeing the cenotaph finally rebuilt after her own years of effort is a mission accomplished Idnd of moment for both her and her late husband.He worked on it right until the end. He (George) would be pleased if he saw it today, she says.It's been a wonderful thing for our town to get it fixed.Since the entire municipality got involved, the plan is to honour veterans from all over the RM, and Hidlebaugh says that early talks have be gun with council to establish an additional memorial at the site in the future.What we're going to plan on doing, is we're going to do a memorial in the cenotaph area. A cenotaph, it basically honours vets that have fallen overseas and were buried overseas, Hidlebaugh says.A memorial, though, is much more than that. (GAAC) is hoping your talent can produce their new logo.The centre is holding a logo creation contest that's open to all ages as it looks for an image that will best represent its work in the community. The centre has 100 members and offers programming for all ages including various dance classes, musical instrument lessons, art and drawing classes and a drama program.Lana Knor, vice-president of the centre, says the contest was created after the centre's new president, Dr. Mike Loudon, noticed the centre had no letterhead when it sent out correspondence.We needed to write some letters, we were getting geared up for some stuff we wanted to do, Knor says.Ho ■a lottor+»o^H ■snH MtoThe deadline for submissions is Jan. 15, and the art centre will have all of the entries on display from Jan. 16 to 31 so that art centre members can have the chance to vote on their favourites.We want to make sure our members feel included Knor says.We have over 100 members and we feel it's important to make them feel included and make them feel like they get to make some decisions.A top eight will be selected after the members have cast their votes, and the GAAC board of directors will choose the winning submission during their February meeting.
