Paul Harvey Vannier, Well known Bluffs' 4man, dies MondayPaul Harvey Vannier, 76, of Bluffs ed at 3:20 p.m. Monday at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield after an extended illness.He was bom November 2,190. son of George H. and Johanna Hubbert Vannier in rural Bluffs.He married Dorothy H. Orwig June 8, 1932. She survives along with a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Gretchen) Westermeyer of Bluffs. There are two grandchildren Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. LaBelle Merriman of Jacksonville.Preceding in death were three brothers, Frank, George Burt, and Archie, and three sisters, Ir a Kruse, Lena Lovekamp, and Cora Vannier. The deceased graduated from luffs Public School and attended the University of Il linois. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945.He was publisher and editor of the Bluffs Times from 1930 to 1962 and 6f the Vleredosia Budget from 1940 to 1962 He built the Naples Boatel in 1959 and was operator until his retirement in 1969.Mr. Vannier was past president of-the Southern Illinois Editorial As. sociation, former member of the Pas savant Hospital board, charter member of the Bluffs Civics Club, and was active in Democratic politics. He was a member of Sigma Delta Chi (Society for Professional Journalists), University of Illinois Alumni Association, Bluffs American Legion, and Bluffs United Methodist church.The remains were left to Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at BluffsUnited Methodist church.
