andFootnotesACTING ON a hunch, we just phoned film director Arthur Penn at his Stockbridge home. The hunch was that considerable time had elapsed since his last picture, and what were his plans as of now? Local folks remember the film he directed with a Berkshire County locale, Alice's Restaurant, but that was a good while back. Several others have followed.4 * *Well, Mr. Penn was at home, and the lapse, if any, is over. Last week he finished his new film, and presently is catching his breath as he put it. here at home. The picture is called Night Moves, and takes place in the Florida Keys. It's a detective story.There's lots of boating and water, naturally, but the unusual feature, Mr. Penn added, is that it was made from an original script by Alan Sharp, a Scotsman writing an Ameriean-genre detective story. Gene Hackman r'The French Connection) is the star, and the picture will be released by Warner Brothers in June.* * *From the Florida Keys to a Berkshire winter, we observed, is rather a sudden wrench. Well, actually, one doesn’t make motion pictures that way. When Mr. Penn said the picture had been finished last week, he meant it had at last been completely edited and ready to show on theatre screens.Editing a picture takes weeks and months. Each scene will have been filmed in various ways, giving the director many options when he puts the picture
