MASQUERADE BALL MARKSPASSING OF OLD YEAR.Attendance Very Large and ManyBeautiful Gowns and Novel Costumes in Evidence— Prite WinnersThe Star Band and its friends celebrated the outgoing of the old year and the approach of the new Thursday night by a masquerade ball at the Eureka Opera House.The attendance was large and dancing was entered into with an enthusiasm that might have attended the only dance of tho year. The maskers offered much amusement to the many non-dancers present. At midnight a delightful collation was served at the Brown Hotel.The ball room and the music were in perfect accord with the spirit of the merrymakers, and belles* and matrons, youths and patrons sustained their reputations for having a good time by not going home until morning.“The Drummer Girl” was awarded tho lady's prize for the best sustained character, and she was impersonated by Miss Stella Reid of Eureka.John Northey of Ruby Hill was given the gentleman’s prize for the best sustained male character, and represented “Undo Pike.”Among those present were the following:Scrap Book of Eureka—Mrs. H.
