3 I •**Sir:I have lived 'in Ferry Farms for the past 35 years, right above the Severn Inn, the only commercial operation of consequence of the recently designated “Scenic Severn River.”And now here comes Sam Sardinia with his bizarre plans to transform the inn into a Coney Island on the Severn, complete with a huge recreational facility of saun-‘as,. showers, whirlpools, lockers, swimming pool, sattelite dish, hot tubs for each boat slip with their own individual priva,-, cy fences, a second floor to. the restaurant, and a 4-foot-high fence around the entire complex. And if that isn’t Ocean City enough, he plans to bring in a 200-foot ferryboat adorned with palm trees and a flashing neon sign that proclaims to the world that the millionaire businessman, Sam Sardinia, is back in town. The Capital hs done an excellent job of cataloging the constant disregard of these people for existing regulatory statutes, or local sensibilities. The man has a,record of stretching the fabric of community good, will .to the limits.. And in his dealings with the Severn Inn, he never once attempted to contact the 'neighbors toexolain his plans. Then he lenders why we are fightingm f**- fg4* W1'! ~™ O. The unpowered ferryboat would pose a safetyhazard and would interfere with naviga tion adjacent to the'property. We have also noticed several inconsis-tancies in the way the county has chosen to deal with this commercial property. First, it is inconceivable that this parcel of land can perc. After a small rain the-place is under water. The honey wagon was down there to pump out the septic tank every. day when the inn was in operation.Secondly, how can the county say there are enough parking spaces? How can the county allow the owners to claim state and private lands to park cars for a commercial enterprise? Sardinia claims he will be able to accommodate up to a thousand people.'If this' monstrosity takes up residence next to the new Sardinialand, then we can ail kiss the sweet Severn goodbye forever. It will become yet another dirty river of gaudy development. And if we can’t make a stand here, we will, never protect the little natural beauty we- have left. We welcome the support of our fellow Anna-poiitans in this important battle., STEPHEN B, CARRFerry Farm spermits, posting a phony permit from, lastyear, and then dropping four buoys off the property after telling'us the buoys were 'merely ting shipped the the EasternShore. It is the feeling of the Lower Broadneck communities that Sam Sardinia is not planning to build an operation suitable for a scenic river, or a small marina in close proximity to the residential area. Therewould be visual poiiutkc. There would benoise and water pollution. The increased 'traffic would make'an already congested -C-* r* a. it -vr.* rf - c. f-jva 5 fo-C- 21GetAmmm. ^ ^ f* m # '* A k * * fi * ' £* *• ► «TT ’ «**. v* .m, mm- mm, ? * t*i i ^£jL,L*,A,i ft ^ i *** W-ik I* W ^ i. * -A M W;«■ , . » s + * f* _ + • *_ *attest-vsfflqK is Samuei seram: a.The rules of the game are: be sure you don’t know the victim personally, so you’re sure not to find anything desirable -about him; make 'sure you make up your**' *“ wi-iC * CC,iown ■acts.” — the real ones might begood and desirable - id the a rear and above all create ..eiio ugh bad pup licit?.Then i big celebration is planned•mk tn 1* #- **ra wilMany of us in this town have met Mr. Sardinia, and his genius is overwhelming, but more importantly (and1 complimentary) is that he has enough interest in this lovely town to take a “sore” spot in an area, which, is highly visible and often a first impression, of Annapolis, and create ' (with his own ;money) a very beautiful. approach to the area. ’* • 1How many have seen his plans?
