An historical highlight* ?ook place in 1800 when women of* a number of denominations in local ? churches in America organized for *|the needy.; In 1927, the Day of Prayer fan Missions became for the first tjmei the World Day of Prayer, and by; 1936, Christians in more than 50 countries joined in the observance.By 1938, more than 2000 oh-: servance* were reported, and in;*| 1942, the United Council of Church ‘jWomen accepted the responsibility;H for the World Day of Prayer. By* 1945, tLe number of observances' had grown to more than 10,000. jThe group is carrying comfort J and service to millions of migrant P !I worker*, supporting religious work- R fjers for the American Indians and }\engaged in other religious causes, j u’!
