Rogers, superintendents' wife, spoke to the class on psychic phenomenon Mrs.Rogers did a study on the subject after having a psychic experience in 1959“PERSONALITIES THATShaped the Modern World,” taught by Mr Richard Smith, focuses on prominent historical figures, as Nikita Krushchev, Adolf Hitler, Winston Churchill. Karl Marx, and LeninMR. WALTER BALDERACH, chairman ofthe Social Studies department, is instructing a class concerning “The History of the U.S. Prison System.” The course covers the early development of state, local, and federal prisons in America up to the modern era.The course also includes the studv of inmateworganization, security methods, and treatment of prisoners.•‘FAMOUS U . S .GANGSTERS” is being taughtby Mrs. Judy Kotrlik Thiscourse divided into two parts-Early Western Gangsters and20th Century OrganizedCrime, will demonstrate how gangster and outlaw legendscontradicted the actual truth Some of the gangsters being discussed are Jesse James, Billy the Kid. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and A1 Capone. Students are also analyzing reasons for the rising crime rateTo evaluate the news and to teach students how to use the newspaper is the purpose of “Techniques of Newspaper Reading,” taught by Mr. Bill Ebell. The study hopes to familiarize the student with the location of articles in the newspaper and bring attention to the amount of news that can be found in the paper In the course the students will be allowed to read and discuss interesting articles.“ 2 0 t n CENTURY,” taught by Mr. Lauren Wigington, is a study of American fads, follies, songs, customs, and personalities over the last 50 years. Mr. Wigington will show films and slides.Mr. Wigington also teaches “History of Country and Western Music.” The course isconcerned with thedevelopment of music as apart of the folklore and social history of America. It will include the study of major trends, artists, and styles of each decade from the 20’s until now. In conjunction with the study of Western music. Mr. Wigington will play and sing western songs both the past and present.“AMERICAN CULTURE,” taught by Mr John Farrar is a study of all that man has made in the form of tools, weapons, shelter, and other material goods and processes. Man’s attitudes, beliefs, ideas, codes and institutions areincluded in the study.Coach Doyle Johnson isteaching “Latin American Studies.” The course includes the study of the peoples, geography, cultural and political sturctureof the I-atin American countries. Major emphasis is being places on the study of Mexico.Black American Studies” is a course dealing with the problems facing the modern American Negro Coach Bennett Hatton is instructing the course.“HEROES OF THE OLDWest,” taught by Coach Travis Lundell, is a survey of the prominent men and women who played a part in Westward expansion and development“The Twenties,” a course offered by Mr Victor Nelson,covers important events of the20's. The films, records, slides, and pictures shown will attempt to show the beginning of talking movies, fads, radio, crime, war and the depression.“WORLD WAR II,’’ itsbackground, military aspects and people are all included in this course taught by Mrs Antoinette Reading
