Memories of St.Expense Past TimesValentine’s DanceMany happy memories stili linger for some 450 persons both young, and those who are still young in heart, who attended theSt. Valentine dance Sunday, Feb. 14, at St. Christopher's school auditorium, 146th and Keeler av.Dancing was to the music of Dick Singler's orchestra in a beautifully decorated setting of appropriate red hearts, cupids and red and white streamers. A huge net suspended from the ceiling contained balloons that inclosed prizes for those lucky persons who were able to catch the right balloons when the net was released which also added to the fun and excitement of the evening.The mam attraction of the evening was the King and Queen of Hearts contest and due to the all out backing of the Midlothian candidates by their hometown rooters, Albert James Jr. ana Mary Knade both of Midlothian won the thrillingly close contest.King A1 and Queen Mary were crowned in a special ceremony with George Doyle, as master of ceremonies. Mrs. Frank Brossard presented the gifts to the happy winners, and thanked all who attended, for joining in the fun and making the evening such agrand success.The newly crowned King and Quen then led the Grand Promenade and were gayly joined by one and all after which the evening continued with dancing andrefreshments.The lovely gifts and flowersFire Chief Russ Quilhot reports that in the two weeks of Feb., to the 14th. there were 21 fire calls in Markham. 17 calls were within the period Feb. 8th to Feb. 14th and 10 of these were on the 13 th and 14th, alone.1-9 prairie fires were traced to burning rubbish.A rubbish fire started at 155th on the west side of Kedzie, jumped the street, burned its way to 15131 Kedzie where several outbuildings were burned.Two arrest slips have been issued, and the cases will be heared by Magistrate Rhode Saturday. In at least une incident, the culprit, if convicted is open to suit for civil damages.presented to the royal couple and their court were all donated by various good friends of St. Christopher's church and our sincere thanks is extended to them and to all who helped to make the evening one long to be remembered.Mrs. Frank Brossard acted as chairman and Mrs. Robert Hickey, co-chairman, other committees are as follows: Decorations, Mrs. George Doyle, tickets, Mrs. Lee Scheidel, ward robe, Mrs. Kasper Gach, refreshments, Mrs. Frank Klimala, King and Queen contest, Mrs. Steven Bauer, cards, Mrs. Ray Foose, publicity, Clarence Reppert, Mrs. Fred Soth, Mrs. Ralph Vivanti, andMrs. Chandler.Much credit and thanks go to Midlothian Police dept, for the able and courteous manner in which the parking was handled.
