An opening fiesta for the show is planned for Friday, Feb. 23, at 7:30 p.m. and will include Latin refreshments. Several of the artists are expected to be on hand for the opening.Bassols is one of America’s foremost welded-metal and cast-metal artists. Known for shaping welded metal rods into expressive forms covered with puddled droplets of molten steel, the Havana-born artist has created his own unique style. The Brooklyn Museum, Hunter Gallery, Birmingham Museum. America House. Cisnero Gallery,Rutgers University and other centers have displayed his art.Assisting the sculptor during the workshop will be Stookey, a recent master of fine arts degree recipient from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, and Dustin Davis, associate professor of visual arts and FSU resident sculptor. Bassols will touch upon Latin art historical concerns during the demonstration.His art is included in the collections of Katherine Hepburn, John Ciardi, John O'Hara, the Marbrook Foundation and others.
