FSU workshop set by metal sculptorF HOST BURG - Internationally acclaimed metal sculptor Arturo Bassols will present a metal-casting sculpture workshop Thursday at Frostburg State University, marking the first time metal casting sculpture has been done on the university campus. The demonstration, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Ceramics Building (adjacent to the FSU Fine Arts Building).FSU visual arts instructor Dan Stookey, who has been the catalyst in bringing this demonstration to the university campus, explained that FSU has a foundry that remained unused for nearly a decade. In addition to arranging for Bassols to come to FSU to demonstrate his art, Stookey has been responsible forrevitalizing the unused foundry.Stookev, an alumnus of FSU, and Bassols, chair of the department of art and art education at Delaware State College, have forged a cooperative exchange between the two institutions with Bassols coming to FSU to do a workshop and Stookey planning to travel to Delaware State to present one in the future.Bassol’s workshop is in conjunction with the Coordinator’s Choice Exhibition, “Latino Art of the 90’s,” at the FSU Stephanie Ann Roper Gallery.
