Fountain, a native Biloxian long associated with carnival as of-ficial scribe to king d'Iberville, is again serving the Gulf Coast Carnival Association.However, he has«changed his hats. Thisyear he is historian for the association which he had served in former years as vice president.Fountain, now generalmanager of S F Publishing Co., wrote under the pen name of Royal Scribe for years, publishing in The Daily Herald a letter each day for several weeks»fprior to the landing of King d’Iberville by royal barge in Biloxi which told of his prayers toward the city.He also was the originator of the Biloxi Mardi Gras medals along win Kenner Hunt and supervised the design, minting and distribution of the“Doubloons of d'lber-ville,’’ which have also served Biloxi as an individual aid in advertising Biloxi in the tourist and fishing industry.Also a historian of the Biloxi area, Fountain this year assisted Lloyd Moon,master of ceremonies andcoordinator for televisioncoverage of the annual event.Piltz9thousand other details that make for a smooth-running coronation ball and carnival celebration have been placed in the hands ofWALTER F. He■pointed out the colors originated in 1872 when the Grand Duke Alexi of Russia visited in New Orleans. “In honor of his visit, alarge and spectacularshow was given for his benefit and Mardi Gras was thus born in New Orleans as was the Krewe of Rex which was formed to select a king of MardiGras,” Fountain said.The official Mardi Gras song, “If Ever I Cease toLove,” which became animmediate favorite of theGrand Duke, was also adopted for all time by theCrescent City.”eetdone?committeesMrs. Flo Piltz, wife of the Bicentennial King of Carnival and president of the Gulf Coast Carnival Association, Gerald Piltz.Mrs. Piltz is assisted by Martha McDermott, wife of John P. McDermott Jr.,captain of the association.Both have worked closely with the committee chairman and for the past six months to see that everything is done properly and on time. -Mrs. Piltz heads the invitation committee which must get out the invitations to the various functions. She also determines the numbers that will be present and must check closely the responses to the invitations, determine how many view card holders can be expected to attend, how many guests will participate on the floor of the coronation ball and attends to numerous other like duties.She heads the committee that acts as scribes for the king and queen and which Mrs. McDermott is coronation scribe.The Monday night gala coronation ball is by invitation only and is formal.The royal reception anc cocktail party Tuesdaj afternoon and the carniva ball Tuesday evening are open to the public.Tickets to the two events, the reception from c to 4 p.m. at the Buena Vista, which includes a buffet; and the carnival Ball and pageant in the Biloxi Community Center following the ball, are $11 for both events. Tickets are available at the Coast Carnival Association in the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce, Porter Avenue and U.S. 00.
