4*K!5)TfyM»0Tt»n!ARTIST’S RENDITION OF CIRCUS WORLD IN POLK COUNTY...“Greatest place on earth” holds opening today.IMAX, hailed as the most revolutionary motion picture process ever developed, makes its American debut at Circus World Showcase in a 27 minute film depicting the Worlds of Ringling Bros, and Barnum Bailey Circus and Circus World.At the conclusion of IMAX, a few minutes lapsed before the awed guests regained their equilibrium and moved to the Cookhouse and Circus Bazaar.A gargantuan sampling of tasty and tempting foods was on hand for all to enjoy. Included in the expansive and decorative layout of treats was Barnum Blueberry Muffins, Ringling Red Hots, Bailey Cinnamon Toast, Side Show, Carrousel, and Center Pole Sandwiches, Sunburst Artichokes Pink Lemonade, and Cirky Gelatin Dessert!In full view from the Cookhouse is the “backyard” and onlookers were treated to a bustling blaze of color from the famed turn of the century M. Charles Illion’s Carrousel. No one could resist riding this masterpiece of craftsmanship that originally took five years to construct and is recognized by experts as a prime example of superb artistry in this illuminating and charming craft.Those ponderous pachyderms so much a part of Ringling Bros, and Barnum Bailey Circus and a permanent daily feature of Circus World Showcase were out in numbers as a splendid rendition of routines were presented in the Circus Ring to an enthusiastic audience. Everyone enjoyed the rare opportunity to ride an elephant. Rambling about the “backyard” atop an elephant’s back was most definitely the “in” thing to do for most all of the 600 guests.There were also camel rides as visitors toured the “backyard” in ornately decorated camel carts, and enjoyed watching the Circus World giraffes.All of the attractions in full evidence today at Circus World Showcase remain as a permanent part of the spectacular four pole-Big Top structure whetting the appetites of visitors with an exciting introduction of what to expect upon completion of Ringling Bros, and Barnum Bailey Circus World.In the words of Irvin Feld, “Wherever one walks he will be surrounded by a life-like panorama of the Circus. (On US 27 south, near the 1-4 intersection).Circus World Showcase will be a permanent part of Ringling Bros, and Barnum Bailey Circus World, a mammoth, unique (multi-million dollar) entertainment complex, embracing a thriving city of circus in motion.It was a glittering scene of great excitement as the 600 invited guests gathered in front of Circus World Showcase, avibrantly-striped four pole Big Top structure covering over25,000 square feet.The 150 member Winter Haven and Haines City Florida High School Bands replete in articulately appointed costumes set the atmosphere for arriving guests with an exuberant and brassy repetoire of pulsating circus marches, and the Circus World Showcase clowns entertained guests adding a touch of humor to the festivities.With much excitement, the crowd was welcomed to Circus World Showcase by the eloquent Ringling Bros, and Barnum Bailey Circus Ringmaster, Harold Ronk, a 20-year veteran of The Greatest Show On Earth.Following the flag raising ceremonies of the United States, Florida State and Ringling Bros, and Barnum Bailey Circus World Flags, ringmaster Ronk infused the air with a wave of electricity as he introduced Lou Jacobs, world-famous clown whose face has appeared on a U.S. postage stamp and Ringling Bros, and Barnum Bailey Circus advertising for half a century.Perched atop “Anna Mae”, a member of the world’s largest herd of performing elephants, Jacobs rode onto the scene of the ribbon cutting ceremony.Jacobs, wielding an elephantine pair of scissors, assisted by “Michu,” the smallest man in the world, Governor’s Executive Assistant Harvey Cotten and Irvin Feld, snipped the 3-foot wide ribbon wrapped around Showcase marking the official opening of Circus World Showcase. A bursting barrage of several thousand balloons then filled the skies in a colorful climax to the ribbon-cutting ceremonies.The guests filed into Circus World Showcase past the expansive, hand painted, brilliant Circus mural, the hall of gigantic and flamboyant Circus posters and detailed dioramas into the Circus World Theatre.Ronk introduced the impressive rostrum of speakers before the presentation of the 16 minute Ringling Bros, and Barnum Bailey Circus World Story. Accompanied by a huge,ingenious three-dimensional electronic rendering, the narration, assisted by a series of sounds and music, serves as a detailed introduction to . the numerous components that will comprise Ringling Bros, and Barnum Bailey Circus World.The crowd then passed on to the plus 600-seat James A.
